Fundacio Institut de Recerca de L'energia de Catalunya (IREC-CERCA) – the Solar Energy Materials and Systems (SEMS) Group designs new materials and processes for advanced thin-film photovoltaic (PV) technologies and develops novel solutions for industrial mass-production that are more affordable, efficient and sustainable.

The group works closely with pioneer research groups from institutions across Europe and multinational companies in advanced characterisation methodologies for quality control and process monitoring applications.

The main infrastructures available to carry out the project research activities include i) Photovoltaic device prototyping laboratory, ii) Advanced thin film characterisation laboratory, iii) Research and industrial process monitoring lab, including facilities for the design, prototyping and testing of spectroscopic and optoelectronic sensors and systems; iv) Field testing site.
